Nashik attempted rape: Seven held for violence
A heavy bandobast has been deployed all over the city and its neighbouring rural areas after protests erupted over the sexual assault of a minor
Even as normalcy returned to Nashik on Monday, a day after violent protests over sexual assault on a minor, police personnel were deployed across the district to avoid any untoward incident.
Twenty vehicles, including three police vans, ST buses and private vehicles, were torched and roads were blocked in Nashik district on Sunday, to demand action against the 15-year-old accused. “We have arrested seven people for arson,” said Ankush Shinde, superintendent of police, Nashik rural, whose vehicle was targeted.
“We are taking action against those sending messages on social media and spreading rumors,” said Nashik police commissioner Ravindra Singhal.
The police are meeting residents of the village where the incident took place to ensure there is no law and order problem. They have urged the villagers to refrain from spreading communal hatred.
