Suspect a WannaCry ransomware attack? Call this Maharashtra government helpline

Last Friday, several countries across the globe saw ransomware attacks made by a virus called WannaCry.

In light of the recent WannaCry ransomware attacks on a few Maharashtra government office computers, the state has come up with helpline numbers for a few days to guide organisations and institutions prevent and remedy such such cyber attacks, if any.

Last Friday, several countries across the globe saw ransomware attacks made by a virus called WannaCry. The hackers first lock the information on the computers, and then demand money for allowing access to it.

The Computer Emergency Response Team of India had also issued a red alert in this regard.

To prevent any further attacks, the Maharashtra government issued a helpline number - 02536631777- for all people, organisations and institutions to call in case they have been infected, or if they want information on how to prevent a ransomeware infection.

A press note issued by the special inspector general of police, Brijesh Singh, Cyber & PAW, Maharashtra, states, “In the light of current ransomware attacks happening across the globe and in India, we are collaborating with Quick Heal to help people in crisis.”

“Security experts will be available on the helpline number on May 16 and 17. All calls on this number will be handled by malware specialists, who will guide people on prevention and remediation.”
