2 Fraudsters posing as cops arrested

Chivalry pays — and two Mumbai conmen had a unique way of demonstrating that. They used to fly down to Delhi twice a month, dress as cops, and sweet-talk women into keeping their jewellery in a bag they provided for safekeeping.
Of course, on reaching home, the victims would find that the bag that the gentlemanly cops returned to them did not have their jewellery at all. Sartaz Ali, 50, and Sheru Hussain, 35, were arrested Friday from south Delhi, a police officer said.
“They would provide the bag themselves and would engage the victim in talk before replacing the original one with a similar bag containing fake jewellery. They would especially target senior citizens,” the police officer added.
The duo and their accomplices would travel by air and stay in hotels in Nizamuddin in south Delhi and Paharganj in central Delhi. After committing the crimes, they would return to Mumbai. Sartaj returned by train along with the loot. “We have recovered gold bangles, rings and a motorcycle,” the police said.
