20-year-old knocks down policeman, held

A police officer sustained injuries when a 20-year-old man crashed his jeep into the official’s bike on Saturday. The accused, Miten Thakur, was arrested by the police.

Thakur, a Gamdevi resident, was speeding on his Scorpio, when he hit Jaswant Rajpure, 43, a beat marshal who was driving ahead of him.

Rajpure was allegedly thrown off his bike. While his wrist has been fractured, he has also suffered injuries on his knees and elbows.

“The injuries are not major. He will recover soon,” said an officer from the Worli police station.

“Rajpure was on his daily rounds when Thakur who was speeding towards Glaxo Junction, came from behind. Before he could slow down, Thakur hit Rajpure,” he added.

The incident occurred at 5.20pm on Saturday following which Thakur was immediately taken in custody.

He has been booked on charges of rash driving and damaging property. Prima facie, it was found that he was not driving under the influence of alcohol.
