23-yr-old held for minor’s rape

The Gamdevi police, on Thursday, arrested a 23-year-old unemployed youth who had allegedly raped a 12-year-old girl in his neighbourhood.

While the incident occurred a month-and-a-half ago, the girl’s mother confronted the accused on Thursday and after the girl told her what had happened.

Her father had lodged a complaint with the police.

The police arrested Kailash Mayavanshi.

“Mayavanshi and the victim’s family stay in private servants’ quarters at Altamount Road. Mayavanshi had sedated the girl and then raped her,” said Sanjay Diwadkar, senior inspector.

“A medical check-up of the girl has also confirmed intercourse,” Diwadkar added.

After the girl’s father lodged a police complaint, we sent a team to look out for Mayavanshi.

“Since he had learnt about the police complaint, he was preparing to escape to Gujarat,” said Diwadkar.
