Dipesh Patil from Vashi, found the turtle in Vashi Creek on Friday evening, when it was struggling to come out of the water.

Two days after an injured Olive Ridley turtle weighing 25kg was rescued from Juhu beach, members of the Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare (RAWW) received a call from a Navi Mumbai resident on Wednesday, who had rescued another turtle from the same species and kept it at his home for the last four days.

The 18kg turtle was provided initial treatment at Thane range office and was taken to the turtle rehabilitation centre in Dahanu for further medication on Thursday by members of RAWW and the forest department.

“The turtle is 30 inches in length and 23 inches in width. It has minor injuries but since it was kept in captivity for some days, it has lost body fat, is dehydrated and traumatised when we treated it,” said Pawan Sharma, president, RAWW.
