Those suspended include sitting corporators Jayshree Kharat, Vishwanath Mhaske, Arvind Bane and Janak Sanghvi.

Jyoti Alwani, wife of former corporator Parag Alwani, is pitted against official candidate Priti Bane in suburban Vile Parle for the February 16 BMC polls.

Maske, two-time corporator from Mulund, is contesting as an independent in ward 102, his daughter Shobha Mali in ward 99 and his aides Anand Patil and Meenakshi Mankar in wards 98 and 103, against official candidates of the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance.

Bane, who hails from South Mumbai, lost his ward to reservation and has fielded his wife Ujjwala Bane as an Independent candidate. Kharat is contesting as an Independent against official candidate Mahadev Shivgan in ward 143.

Incidentally, Purohit's daughter-in-law Hema had also filed her nomination against the party candidate from ward number 219. The nomination was withdrawn after it created a furore and caused a major embarrassment to the Mumbai BJP chief.
