The party, otherwise known for its disorganised functioning, has made a first-of-its-kind arrangement to help its members with their homework at its renovated office in the Vidhan Bhavan. The move is expected to help the legislators when the Congress-led government faces the heat on several issues.

State Congress general secretary and coordinator of the Congress legislative party (CLP), Sunjay Dutt told HT that a full-fledged research and information bureau would help legislators on all fronts. “Our legislators will discuss development and welfare schemes in their respective constituencies and the state. We expect them to raise the bar.”

Dutt said chief minister Prithviraj Chavan had taken the initiative to start the modern facility at the CLP office. “The CM wants Congress legislators to raise quality issues and contribute significantly to parliamentary affairs.”

According to Dutt, support staff at the bureau will have all information on government schemes related to the ‘aam aadmi’, women and children, infrastructure, farmers, labourers, youth and weaker sections of society.
