The Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University's (YCMOU) is introducing 'Yash Sankalp' - a four-level programme for a bachelor's degree in road transport or a diploma in driving.
"The diploma programme will be for one year and the degree course will be for three years," said Sanjay Sasane, deputy regional transport officer. "Also, there will be a six months' certificate course and two-year advance diploma programme."
Although the course will commence in June, John Danial, president and CEO of Commonwealth Learning Centre, Canada, will officially launch it on Tuesday.
Sasane said the degree programme would cover basics of transport administration, tips on mental health, banking and insurance and disaster management. "The diploma course will cover various transport rules, penalties, vehicle maintenance, basics of repairing, human behaviour, tourism and marketing."
According to Sasane, the degree-diploma programme will benefit people working in the transport industry such as fleet operators, traffic managers, sales executives in automobile industry, booking agents and bus depot managers.
"It will be a distant learning programme, and hence will be theory oriented. We will provide students with the study material, which will include CDs," said Anuradha Deshmukh, project director, YCMOU.
