Innovative ideas by students make university a winner

Last week, students of Mumbai University bagged the overall championship prize at the state-level Avishkar research festival in Kolhapur.

Last week, students of Mumbai University bagged the overall championship prize at the state-level Avishkar research festival in Kolhapur.

The University had sent 44 entries across six categories: pure sciences, commerce, management and law, medicine and pharmacy, humanities and languages, agriculture and animal husbandry and engineering and technology. These were selected from more than 700 submissions, which were then whittled down to around 250 and then the final 44 that went to the next level.

“This year we had better participation and a good coordinated effort from the vice-chancellor down to every student,” said Mrudul Nile, director, students’ welfare.

The university has been trying to emphasise on research for the past few years. “We have been encouraging research by students and the students are also highly motivated,” said Rajpal Hande, director of the board of college and university development at the University.
