A senior crime branch officer, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told HT on Sunday that the laptop could not be sent for forensic analysis earlier on account of the weekend holiday of the laboratory staff.

The laptop had been taken during a search of Jigna's grandparents' house at Ghatkopar a day after her arrest. The crime branch officer said a request would be made to expedite the procedures keeping in mind the urgency of the situation. The officer said the forensic laboratory would be specifically told to retrieve the articles/reports Jigna had contributed and emails she had sent in the last 5-6 months.

This is in the backdrop of the crime branch claims that she had emailed certain articles written by Dey to Chhota Rajan, which allegedly infuriated the don as they showed him in poor light.

During his telephonic interviews to media houses following Dey's murder, Rajan had allegedly claimed those articles had prompted him to issue Dey's death warrant.

The interrogation of Jigna continued for the third consecutive day on Sunday. She has been kept in the Women's cell at the Azad Maidan police station. The officer also indicated some more arrests in the case.
