A 25-year-old daily wage labourer, hailing from Uttar Pradesh, has been arrested from Marine Drive for allegedly possessing a revolver and four cartridges, police said on Wednesday.
According to them, the accused Rohitkumar Singh was found moving suspiciously last night at the Marine Drive area by a girl, who alerted a police constable patrolling the area.
“After the girl’s complaint, the police constable went to Singh and frisked him. A country-made revolver and four cartridges were found in his bag,” senior inspector at Marine Drive Police Station Zunjarrao Gharal said.
The daily wage labourer, who was subsequently arrested, claimed he had procured the weapon from one of his friends in Mumbai, Gharal said, adding a case was registered against Singh at Gamdevi police station.
Singh stated he had plans to extort money from rich people, the officer said, adding, “We are also probing if he has any underworld links.”
