While his wife had gone to Goregaon to meet one of her friends, his sister-in-law, who lives with them, was at work, police said.

After his sons left, police said, the accused locked the door from inside, gagged his daughter and allegedly raped her. He also threatened to kill her if she told anyone about it, police said.

When the sons returned home after 20 minutes, they found the door locked. They knocked but no one opened the door. The boys then sought the neighbours’ help, who broke open the door.

The neighbours caught Thevar and thrashed him. The locals handed him over to the police.

Police Inspector Anil Patil of the Kashimira police station said: “We have arrested the accused. Investigation is on in the case.”
