Fiji Frederick, Manpreet’s advocate, informed the Bombay High Court on Thursday that Nanaksingh had called her in April and threatened that he would never return the child.

“She received two phone calls on April 8 from two different land line numbers.

She immediately informed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the call was traced to a PCO in Mumbai. But, Nanaksingh could not be found,” said Frederick.

Ajey Gadkari, additional public prosecutor, submitted a progress report to the high court, on behalf of the CBI.

After going through the report, a division bench of Justice D.B. Bhosale and Justice A.R. Joshi expressed satisfaction over the efforts being made by the CBI in tracing the child.

The Bombay High Court has given CBI further time till June 21 to trace Gurashish.

Earlier, Manpreet had expressed apprehension that her husband may have killed their son.

Manpreet’s estranged husband Nanaksingh Biji had kidnapped their only son in January 2008. Gurashish was one year old then.

She had field habeas corpus (produce person in court) petition in the high court after the police failed to trace her child.

The court then handed over the investigation to the Criminal Investigation Department in April 2009. But the state-investigating agency did not show much progress.

The court then asked the CBI to take over the case in July 2009.
