The maximum number of cheating cases were reported during the Class 10 and Class 12 Marathi language paper, senior government officials said.
Out of the 1,253 Class 12 students that have been caught, 337 were found cheating during the Marathi paper. Similarly, out of 561 Class 10 students, 223 were cheating in the language paper.
The students have been either rusticated or send to remand homes.
According to officials, the Marathi paper is usually more difficult than the other subjects. It does not have any subjective questions and papers are also checked more strictly.
Similar is the case with other English and Hindi language papers. In several cases, the government found teachers helping students. In Gadchiroli and Gondia supervisors were found photocopying answer sheets for students. Seventeen cases have been registered against teachers.
Rajendra Darda, state education minister, said he had asked his department to monitor the centres where such malpractices take place.
“These centres will be deleted from the list. But, the overall cheating cases have reduced this year,” he said.
