The woman, who was on her way to work, claimed she had approached the police twice after the incident to lodge a complaint, but they refused to do so.

“The woman did not say that the youths in the car were trying to force her inside. She only said someone had offered her a lift saying he would drop her to her workplace,” said senior inspector Anand Koli of Charkop police station.

“When the woman approached the police on Saturday, she said that the incident occurred on Friday, but when she approached the police again on Sunday, she said the incident took place on Saturday,” said Koli.

“A case has been registered based on the woman’s statement. We are scanning the CCTV camera footage of the vicinity to get leads into the case and verify the facts,” said Koli.

According to the police, the woman, in her complaint, stated that the three youths in a car were allegedly following her and kept honking as she walked along the road. Assuming that she was blocking the car’s path, she started walking on one side of the road.

However, the car stopped next to her and one of the youths in the car tried to force her into the car.
The woman’s complaint also stated that after she raised an alarm in a bid to resist the youth, a biker, who was passing by, stopped and questioned the youths, following which the trio fled. The woman also alleged that she and the biker had approached the policemen, who were patrolling the area, but they refused to hear her out saying that the three men could be known to her.

She claims that for the second time, she, along with her brother, had approached the Charkop police on Saturday afternoon, but the police did not register the FIR, as she had not noted the car’s registration number.

A case has been registered under IPC sections 354 d (Molestation/stalking), 365 (Kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person), 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), 511 (Punishment for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment) and 34 (common intention).
