On Monday night, a few disgruntled parents along with the local Shiv Sena branch members had put up a banner opposite the Canossa Convent School in Mahim asking parents of students to file an FIR against the school for charging Rs2,500 as infrastructure fees.

The next morning, school authorities, along with the Association of Concerned Catholics, called up the Mahim police, following which, they took the banner down. Agnello Fernandes, president of Maharashtra Catholic Youth Forum, (MYCF) and eight other PTA members met with the police.

The school spokesperson said, “We had explained to parents in PTA meetings that the money was needed by the school for beefing up security for the girl students, non-salary expenses, and other maintenance costs. Only a handful of parents who were voted out of the PTA in presence of an education inspector, were unhappy with it. But instead of coming to the school, they complained to a political party.’’
