The Crime Branch, investigating the rape-murder of two minor girls and another who was molested in Kurla, claims to have traced two witnesses who have seen the accused.
One of the witnesses is a vegetable vendor while the other sells fruits.
“We have these two women witnesses, whom the accused had spoken with, and the eight-year-old girl who was molested,” said Inspector A. Gawde of the Crime Branch.
On February 9, a five-year-old girl’s body was found on the staircase of a Kurla building terrace. She was raped. On March 7, a nine-year-old girl was found raped and murdered on the terrace of the police quarters, opposite Nehru Nagar police station.
On April 27, an eight-year-old girl from the Makdawala area was allegedly abducted and molested in a railway colony building. She managed to escape.
The police said the man, who is in his mid-20s, asked the eight-year-old girl to take him to some Subhash’s shanty.
He approached a vegetable vendor and asked for her cellphone number so that he could place orders. “She declined and abused him. He did the same with the fruit vendor nearby. The girl was with him then,” said a police officer, requesting anonymity.
