They were called for an inquiry on February 25 by the Amravati police but were unnecessarily arrested, alleged the Motor Vehicles Department Employees Association.

The staff, clerks and other employees did not work at the three RTOs of Mumbai Central, Andheri and Wadala apart from several other RTOs across the state. This led to inconvenience to people who wanted to register their vehicles on Monday.

“There is no proof that the two employees were involved in faulty registration and theft of heavy vehicles,” said Babaji Hande, executive president, MVDEA.

The association claims that they would again protest on March 15, if the police fail to prove that the two employees are involved in the case. “I have assured them that I will look into the issue,” said Dilip Jadhav, transport commissioner.
