According to the Air Traffic Control officials, the disruption took place because of strong tailwinds (towards the course of aircraft) for 25 minutes, starting from 7.55pm, causing massive air congestion.

A Jet Airways spokesperson said the main runway was shut for “about 25 minutes because of strong tailwinds”. “Flights had to depend on the secondary runway and were shifted back to the main runway later, which led to major congestion,” he added.

The secondary runway could not cater to the traffic because it is half the size of the main runway.

Passengers of a Mumbai-bound Jet Airways flight, which was scheduled to leave from Jaipur at 8.30 pm, were stranded at the Jaipur airport for four hours. “We have to get back to work on Thursday. The delay has inconvenienced us,” said Andrew Williams, an advertising professional from Mumbai.
