The Bombay High Court on Monday directed the police commissioner to initiate disciplinary action against seven policemen who are wanted in the alleged fake encounter of Ramnarayan Gupta alias Lakhan Bhaiyya, an alleged Chhota Rajan gang member, in 2006.
The court was hearing a petition filed by advocate Ramprasad Gupta, Lakhan Bhaiyya’s brother, alleging that his brother was picked up and killed by the police. The matter will come up for hearing after two weeks.
KM Prasanna, head of the Special Investigation Team (SIT), to probe the fake encounter case, submitted the seventh progress report in the high court on Monday.
The report stated that the police have contacted family members of these policemen who are absconding.
A division bench of Justice BH Marlapalle and Justice Anoop Mohta observed: “We expect SIT, which is doing satisfactory job, will submit its eighth progress report by next date.” On Friday, a sessions court had issued non-bailable warrants against the seven policemen who were part of the encounter team.
