“I held a meeting and asked college principals to send their teachers for evaluation,” said acting vice-chancellor of the Mumbai University, Chandra Krishnamurthy.

“Each year the commerce results get delayed because there is a dearth of faculty members. I have told principals that assessment is a priority and colleges should re-work their timetable.”

It has been more than two months since the final-year commerce exams concluded on April 27 for about one lakh students, the largest chunk of final year students.

University guidelines state that results should be declared within 30 to 45 days after the exam ends. As on Friday, 7,000 answer booklets were still to be assessed and another 17,000 had to be moderated.

Last year, too, results were declared 65 days after the exams ended.

To ensure that there is no further delay, the varsity had set up more correction centres in six colleges in the city about three weeks ago so that teachers could go to the centre nears their colleges to assess papers. But despite that faculty members did not turn up.

“Some colleges are not sending teachers for assessment as they themselves don’t have faculty in the first place,’’ said controller of examinations, Vilas Shinde.

There are around 234 colleges in the Mumbai region that offer commerce courses.
