A woman in her thirties allegedly robbed an 87-year-old film director of his mobile phone worth Rs 30,000 in Thane last week. The Thane Nagar police are on the look-out for her after a complaint was lodged on Saturday.

The woman had approached the director claiming to be a movie producer, said the police.

The complainant, Lekhraj Fakirchand Tandon is a resident of Chandivli. He has stated in his complaint that a few days before the incident, the woman contacted him, saying she had a budget of Rs 8 crore for a movie and was looking for a director. The duo decided to meet in Thane to discuss the details.

“On Thursday around 8.15pm, they met at a hotel in Thane. The woman asked Tandon for his phone, saying she needed to make an urgent call and the battery of her phone was dead,” said an officer from Thane Nagar police station. She went out of the room on the pretext of talking on the phone and did not come back.

“Tandon returned home and narrated the incident to his son. On Saturday, they decided to approach the police,” the officer said.
