This Sunday, explore Mumbai like a tourist, through two weekend walking trails.

This Sunday, explore Mumbai like a tourist, through two weekend walking trails. The first is a lakeside food trail in Thane, which will take participants to 10 major lakes in the region, and sample popular street food along the way. As you munch on the area’s favourite misal-pav, street pizza and cold coffee, guides from travel startup SeekSherpa will take you along a three-hour trail around landmarks such as the Upvan Lake and the Masunda Lake. The tour guide will be a Thane local — or a ‘sherpa’ as the company calls such guides. “It’s always different to see a city through its locals,” says Sukhmani Singh, co-founder of SeekSherpa. “And we’re inviting people to be travellers in their own city, as they explore the hidden haunts, sights and sounds with like-minded sherpas.”

Another trail you can catch this weekend is the Byculla Beyond Rani Baug photowalk, organised by travel and research project Caribou Drift. The three-hour walk will take you through Byculla’s forgotten landmarks, and give you the opportunity to better your photography skills, mentored by photographer Mayank Soni, Caribou Drift’s co-founder. You can carry any camera along, from a DSLR to a cellphone camera.
