Add this to the list of murders triggered by petty disputes. What started as just another drinking session among friends ended with the murder of 30-year-old Dashrath Kande. The provocation? Kande's reluctance to share a bottle of whisky, priced Rs550.

Midway through the party, Munglya and Ganesh finished the tipple they had brought and asked Kande to share his bottle of whisky with them. However, Kande refused to part with his whisky, an act that angered his two friends.

“At around 9.30 pm, Munglya and Ganesh got into an argument with Kande,” said Pandurang Tangadpale of Nirmal Nagar police station.

The argument between the inebriated men rapidly

worsened. In alcohol-fuelled rage, Munglya and Ganesh brought out a knife and stabbed their friend five times in the chest, Tangadpale said.

Realising the consequences of their act, the two men fled the spot immediately, while the two others, Rahul and Suresh, called up Kande's sister, Jayshree Doifode. Kande, who was out of job, lived with his sister at building No 179 of the Railway colony in Khar West, police said. Meanwhile, the police were also informed and a mobile police van was rushed to the spot.

Police said Kande was rushed to Bhabha hospital, but was declared dead on admission, having lost a substantial amount of blood.

Meanwhile, the accused, Munglya and Ganesh have been booked under Indian Penal Code sections 302 for murder and 34 for an act done by several persons for furtherance of a common intent. The two are yet to be arrested.

“The accused fled the spot immediately after the incident. However, we have several details about them including their photographs and we should be able to nab them soon,” said Tangadpale.
