Water cuts in south Mumbai, eastern suburbs

South Mumbai and most parts of the eastern suburbs will receive no water supply on Tuesday and Wednesday (March 8-9) as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) plans to carry out works to connect main water supply lines at Vikhroli and Amar Mahal junction in Ghatkopar.

The civic body has issued a press release stating that the following areas will receive no water on March 8 and 9 – entire ward A (South Mumbai), entire ward B (JJ Hospital area), entire ward E (Byculla), F-South (Dadar East), F-North (Matunga East), Kamgar Nagar area in L ward, Sahakar Nagar, Govandi, Mankhurd, Mandala, BARC Colony in M-East ward, Diamond Garden, Mahul village, Mysore Colony, Tata Power colony, BPCL colony, RCF colonies, Chamda Nagar, Thakkar Bappa Colony in M-West ward and Rajawadi, Gorodia Nagar, Ramabainagar, Kamraj Nagar areas in N ward.

Hydraulic engineer Vinay Deshpande said that these areas will face 100% water cuts on the two days and on March 10, water pressure in these areas will be low.

BMC has begun work on replacing three main pipelines running between Bhandup and Matunga.

Presently, work on connecting new pipelines within the distribution system is being carried out in phases.
