They say it’s never too late to pursue your dreams. And Rajeev Raja, Prabhakar Mundkur and Subhash Kamath couldn’t agree more. Having dedicated almost three decades to the ad world, chasing deadline and warding off work pressures, the trio decided to follow their passion — music.

"We wanted to put together a band because we love music. I played music while pursuing a career in advertising. But now, I’ve decided to focus only on music," says Rajeev Raja, who plays the flute and harp, and sings with the band. Raja is also the national creative head with DDB Mudra.

Called Wanted Yesterday, the band’s name, Raja says, is inspired by a cliché in the ad-world pertaining to the impossible deadlines they have to meet. “Its common to find people using this term in an agency, ‘This is wanted yesterday!’ (sic), which is kind of funny. Also, since we play retro, it seemed apt.”

Raja is joined by bandmate Mundkur, who is the CEO of Percept H and plays the lead guitar besides singing too. Kamath, the managing partner of ad agency BBH, plays the rhythm guitar and sings. The trio is backed by Kenneth Rebello on bass and FA Talfaral on keyboard.

At their gig tonight, the band will play covers of popular numbers by JJ Cale, The Beatles, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan and The Allman Brothers among others. “Despite a hectic professional schedule, we work things around to have rehearsals. With this band, our endeavor is to bring back to the younger generation, the music that paved way for the newer forms that exist today,” says Raja.
