Jai Ho singer, AR Rahman feels that whether its actors singing or singers directing, one has to be sincere and honest in whatever they do.

Music composer AR Rahman is the latest one to express his thoughts on the actor-singer debate. The ace singer believes that one is free to do anything, if he or she has is truly passionate towards it. “You just have to dwell into it and continue to hold on to it, work hard and give your best,” says Rahman, who was in Delhi to release his directorial debut Le Musk.

The whole debate around actors singing started when reports did the rounds that Sonakshi Sinha will be a part of the opening act for pop star Justin Bieber’s upcoming concert in Mumbai on May 10. The news didn’t go down well with quite a few people from the music industry and some even said that an actor should concentrate on acting and not sing at shows or in films. Though Sonakshi later refuted reports that she would be performing at the concert, by that time, the debate already had the industry divided.

Rahman adds, “It’s not that anything belongs to anyone. Anyone can become anything. Directors can become composers, composers can turn directors and singers can become actors too. I don’t think singing belongs to singers only. What’s important is that how sincere I am. I should not cheat. I should be honest to my job. I should try hard and excel in it.”

Rahman also shares that as a singer, while on the stage, he is always thinking about to give his best. “I am always worried about my performance — I shouldn’t go flat or lose the tempo, the song must have the feel... So, it doesn’t matter who is doing what, dedication is what matters,” he says, adding that there is no point in restricting oneself when there’s so much that can be explored.
