Katy Perry had to be evacuated from her concert in the Philippines recently after a bomb scare.

The 27-year-old singer was due to perform the final show of her California Dreams world tour with a gig at Manila’s SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds in January, when police were called to the venue to check out a suspicious package backstage.

Perry was rushed out of the arena as bomb experts scoured the area and the delay to the start of her show was subsequently blamed on a “security issue”.

The popstar has now opened up about the real reason behind the hold-up and admits the scary incident left her in tears.

“You know those bomb-sniffing dogs? They were everywhere. They started sniffing out this backpack that was near my dressing room,” Contactmusic quoted Perry as telling America’s Interview magazine.

“Well, they had to put me in an armoured car, and I think I started crying at one point because I was just so overwhelmed,” she said. The suspicious backpack proved to be harmless, much to the singer’s relief.

“But we came to find out at the very end that it was chicken in the backpack that the dogs were sniffing and not something else... We call it the chicken bomb now,” she added.

The concert in Manila was the last of Perry’s 124-date trek.
