Releasing documents obtained under RTI on Monday, the councillor said the society running the institute was given nearly 54,000 square yards of land in 1968 on concessional rates by the then Ghaziabad Improvement Trust (now GDA) on lease for the purpose of building a school. “Instead of school, a professional institute has been built on the land,” alleged Tyagi.

According to him, one Uday Singh had filed a petition in a court of law in 1977 against the Ghaziabad Improvement Trust claiming ownership of 10,000 square yards of the land allotted to IMT, Ghaziabad.“The land parcel of about 10,000 square yards was under litigation. The land belonged to the authority and the petition was dismissed in 1977 itself. After that, the authority never allotted the land to anyone including institute,” Tyagi said.

“However, the construction of institute continued and the land in question was merged within the original land without an allotment process. In the reply to RTI application, the authority in December 2018 stated they have only allotted 54,049.25 square yards of land on lease for 90 years,” he said.

Tyagi said that in 2016 the authority approved a revised map layout of the institute which also included the ‘missing’ land of about 10,000 square yards.

He further said he has filed complains with the office of Uttar Pradesh chief minister and other senior GDA officers with regards to the alleged land encroachment. He further claimed that the lease of land was allotted for a school and not for a professional institute.

Authority’s vice chairperson Kanchan Verma said that she has constituted a committee of officials for to look into the matter. “A team of officers from town planning, finance and others will inquire and submit a report within one month. The records and layout plans since 1968 will also be scrutinised,” she added.

However, the officials from IMT denied all allegation made by the councillor. “We already have a GDA-approved plan which shows the exact land allocated to us. The plan is GDA approved and there is no discrepancy or any violation about the issue of 10,000 square yards as alleged by the councillor.Further, the institute is run by an educational society which is non-profit making. We will comply and help out GDA in the inquiry,” said an official.
