Ghaziabad DM sends ward boy to lockup after he misbehaves with woman patient
The DM, said the incident that took place at the MMG district hospital in Ghaziabad, was ‘uncalled for'
The district magistrate (DM) on Wednesday ordered a ward boy from the MMG district hospital to be sent to the police lockup after he allegedly misbehaved with a woman who had come to the hospital with a minor girl. The DM was on an inspection of the hospital.
“The ward boy pushed the woman and the child and such behaviour is uncalled for. He was taken away by the police and his services will be terminated. He is a contractual employee. After the incident, we have directed the hospital authorities that all ward boys should be in uniform and will also display their ID cards,” said Ministi S, district magistrate, Ghaziabad.
The DM also visited patients in wards and sought information from them about the conditions at the hospital and the treatment given to them. She also inspected the wards and found unclean bedsheets and overflowing dustbins.
“In one of the wards, the ceiling was in a bad shape and almost ready to fall on patients. The hospital authorities have been ordered to get it fixed as payment for the same has already been made,” Ministi added.
Former DM, Nidhi Kesarwani had previously recommended the suspension of two doctors who were allegedly found prescribing medicines from outside shops. She had also found that certain medicines and laboratory reagents were not available at the hospital.
The hospital is located on GT Road in Ghaziabad city and also houses a newly constructed all women’s hospital on its premises.
“If the officials keep visiting the hospital, it will benefit patients. A lot of issues raised by patients often go unheard. Long queues are a regular feature at the district hospital. There are frequent complaints of rude behaviour by the hospital staff,” said Nishant Goel, a Govindpuram resident.
