“The doctors have said that she is on life support and her condition is very critical. All we can say at this moment is that we are hoping for the best and the entire hospital staff is behind her family and friends,” VB Joshi, spokesperson for Kailash Hospital, said.

Kaayum, a student of Miranda House college, was grievously injured after her UBER cab driver allegedly rammed into a stationary truck from behind Sector 16A on Friday morning and fled the spot. Kaayum was travelling with three other friends to Delhi and was on her way back from a friend’s place in Greater Noida after attending a birthday party. She was reportedly sitting in the centre of the rear seat and was thrown off by the impact, and hit the windshield and the dashboard.

Two of her friends, Tanuz Kalita (19) of SGTB Khalsa College and Siddharth Pathak (20) of Swami Shraddhanand College, were also injured and admitted to the hospital. According to the doctors, Tanuz was discharged on Tuesday morning and Siddharth is out of the danger.

“Though Siddharth is in ICU, his condition is stable and he is out of danger,” Joshi said.

Kaayum’s family, friends, batchmates and teachers were seen waiting anxiously outside the ICU ward of the hospital on Tuesday.

“At this moment, we are praying for the best and hoping that Kaayum survives. We are very tensed and anxious about her health,” Poonam Boro of Indraprastha College, who is Kaayum’s childhood friend from Assam, said.

Kaayum’s teachers also came out in support of her family. “The entire college is behind Kaayum and her family in this difficult time. We have come to visit our student and we are praying that she emerges from this condition soon,” Dr Pratibha Jolly, principal of Miranda House college, said.
