Noida traffic office may shift to facilitate fine payments

The traffic police have submitted a proposal to the Noida authority to accommodate the department in the new building being constructed in Sector 96 near Okhla Bird Sanctuary that is expected to be ready by the end of this year.

This would make the office, which is currently situated at the border near the Noida Gate, more accessible, helping with traffic fine payment and integration of all camera-based traffic penalties. The proposal will now have to be approved by the Noida authority.

“Since the e-challan system started, the number of people coming to pay off their penalty has increased a lot. The new location will make it convenient for us to accommodate the increasing number of visitors,” Anil Kumar Jha, superintendent of police (traffic), said.

The traffic police have submitted a report with their requirements for sitting rooms and other infrastructure. The requisition mentions rooms with a seating capacity of about 15 people, including offices for the SP, DSP, inspector and other staff.

Additional space would be required for a traffic signal monitoring wall, a CCTV monitoring wall, a media cell, two e-challan payment counters, a waiting hall and a conference or training room. An e-challan central monitoring centre would also need to be established for mobile application integration, Highway Traffic Management System (HTMS) cameras for the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, Yamuna Expressway, red light violation detection (RLVD) cameras at sectors 25/31 and 57, and on the elevated roads.

The new space will also help integrate the Noida authority’s HTMS data with e-challans, which has been a challenge, as HTMS data, saved on physical servers, could not be transferred online without installing optical fibre cables from the Noida authority to traffic police office.

Officials of both departments—the traffic police and the Noida authority—have been contemplating moving to a centralised location.
