Techie robbed of his gold chain at gunpoint by four in Noida
The incident took place when the man was waiting with his son for his school bus
A 35-year-old man was robbed of his gold chain at gunpoint from Mamura Chowk of Sector 62 on Wednesday. Despite his best efforts to resist the robbery, the gang of four overpowered him and made off with the chain.
Police said the incident took place around 7.30am, when the man, Awdesh Choudhary, an IT professional who lives in Ushma Urja apartments, came to Mamura Chowk to put his seven-year-old son on the school bus.
Choudhary was waiting for the bus with his son Shitij, when a man in his early twenties rushed towards him and snatched the gold chain. He tried to flee from the spot on his accomplice’s motorcycle, but Choudhary managed to catch them.
Police said Choudhary in his complaint said that he pushed the bike and both men fell off it. He recovered his chain and shouted for help. But no one came to his aid. By then, two others on another motorcycle reached the spot and pointed a pistol at him, police said.
Choudhary tried to overpower them, but he was hit twice on the head with the pistol butt. He fell unconscious and the men made off with the chain. Police said his son started crying and passersby noticed him.
They gathered around Choudhary, who by then regained consciousness and made a call to the police control room. Later, his statement was recorded and a complaint registered.
Zaheer Khan, station house officer of Sector 58 police station, said, “The victim made a call and a team rushed to the spot. Preliminary investigations suggest that the snatchers may have seen him on a daily basis and hatched the plan accordingly. We are investigating the matter and are hopeful of arresting the snatchers.”
A case under Section 392 (punishment for robbery) IPC was registered at Sector 58 police station.
With a spate in snatching incidents, the city police have already formed an anti-snatching team to end the menace.
The team comprises six members including two sub-inspectors and four constables, who will work only on snatching related crimes.
The team members were tasked to collect details from all the eight police stations of the city, where snatching incidents have been reported. The policemen were also told to go through the modus operandi of snatching cases as mentioned by complainant and to mount increased surveillance.
