“The bodies of the boys were found in an abandoned boating pool owned by the Greater Noida authority, where water had collected due to the recent rain. A team of the Dadri police was sent to the spot to retrieve the bodies and send them for an autopsy. The autopsy report has revealed that the two boys died of drowning. We did not find any injury marks on the two,” Ram Sen Singh, station house officer, Dadri police station, said.

Sonu and Aryan had set out from their homes towards the jungle area to herd cows around 3.30pm on Saturday. The villagers launched a manhunt for them when the boys failed to return by 7pm. On Sunday morning, their bodies were discovered floating in the abandoned pool by a group of villagers who were part of the search party. According to locals, the pool was abandoned and had dried up in the past five or six years. However, water had collected in it due to the recent rain.

“We searched for my son and his friend till late in the night and found the cows, but there was no trace of the two. In the morning, some villagers told me that two bodies had been found in the pool. Our boys used to go to the jungle area regularly and we had no enmity with anyone,” Pushpendra, Aryan’s father, who works as a farmer in the village, said.

The police said that there a small jungle behind the village, which is a grazing spot for cattle and stray animals.

They said no case has been filed in the matter, however, they are probing the incident.

“Till now, the parents have not lodged any complaint, so we have not filed a first information report. However, we are probing the case from all angles,” Singh said.

When asked about the abandoned pool, Partha Sarthi Sen Sharma, chief executive officer of Greater Noida authority, said,“I don’t wish to comment on this matter.”
