“The van, driven on the wrong side, hit the Chevrolet sedan head on. On being alerted, the police arrived at the spot and admitted the injured van driver to a hospital. He is presently undergoing treatment. We have received a complaint from the driver of the Chevrolet sedan,” sub-inspector Paras Malik, police post in-charge, Vasundhara, said.

The police said soon after the accident, which took place around 11pm on Sunday, a Fortuner SUV, which had on the other carriageway to take a look at the accident spot, was hit from the rear by another car. The Fortuner then rammed into another car which had stopped ahead of the car.

“The vehicles suffered minor damages. Their drivers settled the issue and moved on. We have brought the two cars, which were involved in head-on collision, to the police station,” Malik added.

The Hindon elevated road has been designed for a speed of up to 100km per hour, although the Ghaziabad Development Authority has restricted the speed limit to 80kmph.

The authority, to check instances of speeding and other traffic violations on the elevated road, has proposed the installation of CCTV cameras and speed radars. The bids were invited for the selection of a private agency but the final approval is pending.

The six-lane elevated road spans a distance of 10.3km and serves as a major bypass to reach Delhi. It connects Raj Nagar Extension to UP Gate. Instances of accidents have been frequent on the stretch.

On August 3, two brothers died after their motorcycle was hit by an unidentified vehicle on the Hindon elevated road. On July 7, a passenger died while several others suffered injuries as their speeding car lost control and hit the divider near Raj Nagar Extension.

On April 18, a passenger bus crashed into the height barrier of the elevated road near NH-24, injuring several passengers. In another incident on May 23, a speeding Scorpio hit the divider before crashing into an Alto which was coming on the opposite carriageway.
