Sushil Kumar and Rahul Aware won gold medals in 74kg and 57 kg men’s freestyle wrestling categories respectively at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast on Thursday.Three athletes Babita Kumari (women’s 53 kg freestyle), Tejaswini Sawant (women’s 50m prone shooting) and Seema Punia (women’s discus throw) won silver. Two athletes won bronze - Navjeet Dhillon (women’s discus throw) and Kiran (women’s 76kg). So far, third-placed India have won 31 medals - 14 gold, seven silver and 10 bronze. 12:00 hrs IST: India are currently third in the overall CWG medal tally. That number looks set to jump up considerably today.

11:50 hrs IST: There’s also some squash action this afternoon. The team of Dipika Pallikal and Saurav Ghosal will be in mixed doubles quarter-final action, as will Joshna Chinappa and Harinder Pal Sandhu. Vikram Malhotra and Ramit Tandon will be in men’s doubles round of 16 action as well.

11:45 hrs IST: There’s plenty of afternoon action to look forward to in badminton as well. Saina Nehwal plays Isle of Man’s Jessica Li in a women’s round of 16 match. This will be followed by Satwik Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty playing in mixed doubles round of 16 as well as N. Sikki Reddy and Ashwini Ponappa playing in the women’s doubles pre-quarters.

11:31 hrs IST: In the afternoon session at the wrestling arena in Gold Coast, India are expecting four gold medals, three of them being gold. Sushil Kumar (74kg freestyle), Rahul Aware (57kg) and Babita Kumari (women’s 53 kg) are in the summit clash while Kiran will fight for bronze in the 75kg women’s division.

11:07 hrs IST: With Tejaswini Sawant’s silver, the total haul by India in Gold Coast has reached 25 which includes 12 gold, five silver and eight bronze medals.

10:53 hrs IST: Meanwhile, the Indian men’s lawn bowls team lost 18-15 to Wales.

07:54 hrs IST: Babita Kumari becomes the third Indian wrestler to reach the final on Thursday. She pinned down Carissa Holland of Australia with ease to progress to the gold-medal bout.

07:46 hrs IST: Indian wrestlers have been sublime on the mat. Sushil Kumar, Rahul Aware have made it to the final which will happen later in the afternoon. Kiran, who was competing in the women’s 76kg segment, lost in the semi-finals to Blessing Onyebuchi of Nigeria. She will now fight the repechage round for a chance to wrestler for bronze. Babita Kumari, who is wrestling in the women’s 53kg division, is set to take on Carissa Holland of Australia in the semis.

07:40 hrs IST: Achanta Sharath Kamal and Mouma Das beat David McBeath and Kelly Sibley in straight games to enter the quarter-finals of the table tennis mixed doubles event.

07:35 hrs IST: Meanwhile, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Ashwini Ponnappa are through to the mixed doubles quarterfinals of the badminton with a 21-10, 21-7 win over Canada’s Kristen Tsai and Nyl Yakura.

07:30 hrs IST: Rahul Aware, competing in the 57kg freestyle wrestling category, has entered the final, beating Pakistan’s Muhammad Bilal in the semis.

07:15 hrs IST: As expected, Indian wrestlers have made a good start, dominating the proceedings on the mat at Gold Coast 2018. Sushil Kumar, Rahul Aware, Babita Kumari and Kiran breezed through their opening round matches. AAll four are gold-medal contenders and India’s medal tally is likely to swell by the end of today’s action in the Commonwealth Games.

Apart from double Olympic medallist Sushil (men’s 74kg freestyle), Rahul Aware (Men’s 57 kg), Babita Kumari (women’s 53kg), Kiran (women’s 76kg) are also competing.

In shooting, Anjum Moudgil and Tejaswini Sawant are competing in the 50m rifle prone finals. Neeraj Kumar and Anish will be playing in the Qualification - Stage 1 of men’s 25m rapid fire pistol.

In athletics, Seema Punia and Navjeet Dhillon are competing in the women’s discus throw final while Nellickal V. Neena and Nayana James will aim for medal in women’s long jump.

Apart from them, top Indian shuttlers like PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal, Kidambi Srikanth and HS Prannoy will play in the Round of 16 of individual competition. The Indian table tennis players will also compete in their Round of 16 individual matches.
