Woman tries to end life at Patna police headquarters

Vaishakhi had visited the state women’s commission seeking justice but to no avail, said a police officer. “Later, she went to meet the senior superintendent of police (SSP) but he was not in the office. The woman then tried to end her life by consuming poison,” he added.

The police officer said the woman was found lying unconsciouson at the at police headquarters. “She was immediately taken to PMCH for treatment. At present she is not in a position to say anything over the issue,” he said.

Vaishakhi had had filed a complaint with the women’s cell of Patna police on January 1. According to the complaint, she had fallen in love with Abhishek of Chailitaal under Alamganj police station in Patna City, who was working with her at a private company in West Bengal. They got married at a temple on October 13, 2010, during a trip to Mumbai and the marriage was registered in Kolkata in November 2010, she said.

Vaishakhi’s family had even organised a reception on December 26, 2010, the police officer said. Trouble started after the couple returned from Bangkok after their honeymoon in January 2011.

“After returing from Bangkok, Abhishek refused to live with Vaishakhi, but due to pressure from police and public, his family had to accept her. However, their relation was never cordial,” said the oficer.

Patna SSP Amrit Raj said, “We will take action after recording her statement. I have asked deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Sushil Kumar toinvestigate the matter.”
