5-year-old suffocates to death after getting locked in car near Pune
The incident came to light nearly six hours after the child got locked inside the car. However, he breathed his last when he was found.
A five-year-old died of suffocation on Monday evening after being locked inside a car in Chakan, Pune. The child was identified as Karan Pandey, a resident of Kharabwadi area of Chakan.
The incident came to light nearly six hours after the child is believed to have been locked inside the car. However, he had already breathed his last when he was found. He was rushed to the nearest hospital, but could not be revived.
According to police, the unused car got locked after the child entered it. “He may have entered the car while playing and got locked inside the car,” constable SK Pawar of Chakan police station said. However, the father of the child believes that the child was killed. “There were red (burn) marks on his legs, hands, face and he was frothing from his mouth. Someone has killed my child and kept him in the car,” said Akhilesh Siyaram Pandey, the boy’s father, while speaking to the media.
“The doctors have reserved the viscera in the case and we are awaiting the post mortem report to confirm the cause of death,” said constable S Gawari of Chakan police station. Kunal entered the car at around 12 noon and was found at around 6 pm-6.30 pm, according to police.
The car’s registration number is MH12W8447and is registered in the name of a man identified as Shivaji Shinde. The car had been parked in the area for weeks.
His death was recorded as an accidental death by the Chakan police station under Pune rural police jurisdiction at 8.50 pm. The information was provided to the police by the child’s father after the hospital reported it to the police. Constable Pawar is investigating the case.
The Pandey family resides in Jambhukar Vasti area of Kharabwadi, Chakan, where the car was parked. Akhilesh holds a private job while his wife is a housewife. The couple also has a six-month-old daughter.
