Bavdhan tree ‘trimming’ under PMC scrutiny, inspection planned
While the PMC tree authority had permitted the residents to trim branches up to a length of two to three metres each, massive tree branches were cut down by violating the permission.
The recent hacking of massive tree branches of a number of trees at the Ramnagar colony, Bavdhan, has come under the scrutiny of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and an inspection has been planned on Saturday.
While the PMC tree authority had permitted the residents to trim branches up to a length of two to three metres each, massive tree branches were cut down by violating the permission.
Following reports and pictures in Hindustan Times, Anil Sabale, tree officer in-charge of Kothrud, Aundh, Baner, Bavdhan, said, “Cutting down of tree branches is a clear violation of the permission given by the tree authority department. We will immediately conduct a survey and scrutinise the entire incident and take appropriate actions against the culprits.”
Sabale added he would be visiting the site to conduct an inspection on Saturday. “If the violations of the permission are proven, we will immediately send a legal notice to the contractor and the others responsible for the act, added Sabale,” he said.
The tree authority had permitted the residents to trim branches up to a length of two to three metres each. The permission for trimming was granted by the PMC tree authority on November 6.
The permission specified that two to three branches of 0.40 metre to 0.60 metre in width and branches with a length of two to three metres each may be trimmed. The approximate age of these huge trees is 18 to 40 years.
“We had permissions to trim the trees in our colony, which is a private area, and we have done nothing wrong in trimming branches of trees which are dangerous or close to the road,” said Beena Menon, president, Ramnagar Colony Mandal.
