IISER Pune organises 3-week orientation camp for girl students under Vigyan Jyoti Scheme

The objective of the camp is to generate excitement and interest about science and technology among girls who are at the verge of making career decisions.

Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Pune, under the department of science and technology (DST)'s Vigyan Jyoti Scheme, has organised an intensive three-week long orientation camp for girl students to further science education among rural students. The camp, which will be held from May 21 to June 9, at IISER Pune, will be open to girl students studying in Class 11 (science) from rural regions of Maharashtra.

 The objective of the camp is to generate excitement and interest about science and technology among girls who are at the verge of making career decisions. With opportunities to interact with scientists, doctors, engineers and other professionals, the camp will help girls in getting an overview of various career opportunities that are available in science, engineering and medicine in India. The camp will include hands-on sessions in various branches of science along with sessions on newer career paths, including entrepreneurship and science communications.

Open for Class 11 female science students from non-metropolitan and rural areas of Maharashtra only, the camp will be residential, with lodging and boarding provided at IISER girl’s hostel free of cost. All selected participants will be given a travel allowance as well.

However, for applying to the programme, the students are required to be nominated by their respective schools. The last date of submission of nomination letters is April 22.
