The officials of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation(PCMC) have failed to implement pension scheme for the disabled people, the sanction for which was given by the civic body in November 2017.
It was decided in the general body meeting of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, held on November 20, 2017 that a monthly financial assistance of ₹2000 would be given to disabled city residents. However, even after six months, the scheme has not been implemented.
The pension scheme was specifically designed for 1,804 people who had different disabilities.
Datta Bhosale, president, Prahar Apang Kranti Association in Pimpri said,“We have been consistently following up with the officials concerned to start the pension scheme for the welfare of the disabled people but the response from the civic authorities is poor. The officials are saying that the application forms have not been printed yet. This is not acceptable. There is clear lack of will to implement the pension scheme for the disabled people.”
“Yes, there is a delay in implementing the pension scheme. The ramps, crutches and railings which would be beneficial to the disabled is not to be seen in the city. Officials should consider our pleas and upgrade the facilities to make the place disabled -friendly, ” said Manav Kamble, a social activist.
Pravin Ashtekar, additional commissioner of PCMC said,“This pension scheme is being implemented by the Nagarvasti department of the civic body. Finalising the application form format for the pension scheme took time.We changed the format four times before finalising it last week. From next week onwards, the process will get initiated. After scrutinising the forms, we will publish the list of beneficiaries who will get their pension directly transferred to their respective bank accounts.”
