The recruitment process took place between March 12 and April 21 at Chaitraban Vishramgruh (officers club) on the SRPF campus in Ramtekdi. Written tests were conducted for the recruitment of 83 constables.

Following the Nanded police recruitment scam expose, a similar case has come to light in Pune where the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) unit has filed a first information report (FIR) against five persons of a private firm for tampering with the marks of candidates who appeared for a recruitment exam.

According to the police, the accused had tampered with answer sheets of candidates and increased marks of about 30 candidates (to over 90 marks). Each candidate had paid an amount between ₹five lakh to ₹10 lakh for the purpose.(HT REPRESENTATIONAL PHOTO)

Sureshkumar Mekla, SRPF, inspector general (IG), said, “After the Nanded police busted the recruitment scam where the same company was involved, we checked the answer sheets and also contacted the Nanded police for details. Based on our internal inquiry, we have filed the FIR. Now, we will re-conduct the test. The candidates will be intimated about the date.”

The FIR was lodged at the Wanowrie police station after a complaint was lodged by police inspector Nitikant Paradkar of SRPF Group 2, against ETH Limited's Praveen Bhatkar, Shirish Bapusaheb Avdhoot, Swapnil Dilip Salunke, Bhushan Niranjanrao Deoulkar, and Tejas Nemade.

The recruitment process took place between March 12 and April 21 at Chaitraban Vishramgruh (officers club) on the SRPF campus in Ramtekdi. “Written tests were conducted for the recruitment of 83 constables. The company was given the contract of providing optical mark recognition (OMR) sheets and then, checking them. We handed over the OMR answer sheets to the five accused. They checked the answer sheets at Chaitraban Vishramgruh till 4 am on April 22 and handed us the result. We posted the results for the 3,730 candidates on the website. While checking the answer sheets of those who had scored very high marks, we learnt that they were tampered with,” inspector Paradkar stated in his complaint.

According to police, the accused said that one police sub-inspector (PSI) Pawar, who was posted to keep a watch while answer sheets were being checked, was paid two lakh per candidate to turn a blind eye to the tampering.

The candidates were asked not to answer questions by leaving circles blank. “The accused filled the empty circles in the answer sheet with the help of the answer key and got the sheet scanned to declare the result,” said an investigating officer.

Police inspector Umesh Tasgaonkar, who is investigating the case, said, “We have registered a case for cheating, forgery and conspiracy. Further investigations are going on.”
