33-year-old accidentally shoots self while cleaning gun in Patiala, dies
The DSP said his family told the police that Gurmukh came back from a party late at night and was unloading his .32 pistol when the incident took place.
A 33-year-old man died after accidentally shooting self while cleaning his licensed gun. The deceased has been identified as Gurmukh Singh Tanwar, who was an agriculturist.
Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Sourav Jindal said the incident took place at 11.30pm on Saturday. He had received serious head injuries following which, he was rushed to the local hospital and was later referred to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education And Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh. He had succumbed to his injury on Sunday morning.

Police have ruled out the suicide angle as they did not recover any note. The deceased is survived by his mother and wife. Police have started inquest proceedings under Section 174 (to inquire and report on suicide, etc) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) after recording statements of the family members.
Gurmukh was said to be close to Jalandhar Congress leader Avtar Henry and his son Avtar Singh Junior, who is Congress MLA from Jalandhar (North).
