Indian National Lok Dal MLA from Ellanabad, Abhay Chautala on Saturday accused chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, MLAs and Haryana government officials of wasting Rs 54 lakh for a trip to London Olympics that never happened.
Demanding recovery of the amount from all ten officials, Chautala alleged that Hooda and nine other Congress MLAs and state government officials had booked a hotel and flight tickets to go to London for the Olympic Games without prior permission from the central government.
Chautala said that since the delegation was denied permission by the central government and hence the trip to London was cancelled, the state government lost Rs 48 lakh for the hotel booking which was non-refundable and had been paid by the Indian high commission at London. Likewise, all the flight tickets too had to be cancelled; the state government thus incurred a total loss of about Rs 54 lakh.
Chautala sought registration of a criminal case for the alleged wasteful expenditure and held that the state government had incurred the said loss just because Hooda and others had not sought central government's permission prior to booking hotel and the flight tickets.
