Administration gears up for smooth conduct of parliamentary elections

With the announcement of the schedule for parliamentary elections, the district administration has also pulled up its socks for smooth conduct of elections in this sensitive constituency.

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, deputy commissioner-cum-district election officer (DEO) Kamal Kishore Yadav said that the administration has already geared up itself for the election and an all-party meeting had been held to sensitise the political leaders over the implementation of the model code of conduct.

He said that over 14,96,503 voters comprising 7,98,191 males and 6, 98, 312 females will cast their votes in the constituency of which he is also returning officer. A total of 1,570 polling booths would be set up in the constituency.

In Bathinda district, which includes Rampura Phul assembly segment, but not a part of Bathinda parliamentary constituency, there are a total of 9,63,856 voters and 1,029 polling booths.

The people, who have not yet enrolled themselves as voters, can do so by 3 pm on April 9, the last date of filing nomination papers by candidates.

He said that a single window facility has been set up to issue different kinds of permission documents related to elections such as use of loudspeakers, vehicles, and holding rallies.

Besides, a district-level control room has been set up and any complaint with regard to elections can be lodged at landline phone number 2211915.

Flying squads, static surveillance teams and videography teams have also been constituted to keep a check on the expenditure by candidates and flow of money.

A district-level committee has been constituted to keep a check on media coverage and trend of paid news.
