A video had gone viral in which minister was being heard expressing his resentment against the government’s decision of banning beacon lights.

A day after showing resentment over the order to give up the red beacon lights, power and irrigation minister Rana Gurjit on Wednesday blamed the media for misinterpretation of his words, saying he had made the statement in a lighter vein.

“I had issued the statement to the media in a lighter vein and my statement was presented in a wrong way,” Rana Gurjit said while presiding over a meeting with councillors here. He said what was shown was the edited version of what he had said. “I was not using the beacon since the day I assumed charge as a minister. Obeying decisions of the government is the duty of every Congress leader,” Rana said.

On cutting down security of Akali leaders, he said the move was in line with the provision in the law. “Security will be provided as per entitlement to spare more police personnel for the policing,” he said.

Showing concern over wastage of water due to weed in canals, the minister said a survey was being carried out and a decision will be taken in the next cabinet meeting.

Earlier, presiding over a meeting of the municipal council here, Rana directed the MC officials to conduct survey and identify all illegal water and sewerage connections and present a report to him.
