Amritsar lad is 53rd across country in JEE (advanced)

Saket Dhingliwal has emerged as the city topper from the Roorkee zone at the Joint Entrance Exam (advanced) 2015 by securing an All-India Rank of 53. A student of DAV Public School, Saket has scored 377 marks out of 504 and confident of securing admission to either Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi or IIT Mumbai.

Saket is a son of a chartered accountant Rajesh Dingliwal and Anju Dingliwal (house wife) and wants to be a software engineer. He talks to HT about his success mantra.

"I studied more than ten hours a day, but enjoyed every bit of my preparation. I never felt studying to be a burden or took it as a stressful activity. I worked hard at clarifying my concepts," says Saket, who scored 100% marks in maths and chemistry subjects at the Class 12 CBSE board exams.

"This year, the pattern of the JEE (advanced) was changed and negative marking was introduced and kept at (-2). This was never the case before. Even the number of questions this year was more. I was fully prepared. Physics remained my strong point," he added.

In the district, boys have outshone girls and have bagged more ranks at the exam. All students took the exam from the Roorkee zone. Students feel that the streams of computer science, electrical and mechanical engineering would be the 'in-streams' this year.

Other rankers

Haresh Khanna of DAV International School is another good student from the city and has secured a rank of 392. "I used to fix daily targets and used to gradually come out of my comfort zone. This kept me motivated to keep studying and stretch myself. I only slept once I was done for the day," he said.

Other students, who took coaching from FIITJEE, and cleared the exam are Kartik Gupta of DAV Public School with a rank of 762. Arjun Mehra secured a rank of 2,950. Other rankers are Aashish Sharma (9,255); Nandit Mehra (15,607); Saksham Sondhi (18,003) and Jodhjeet Singh (20,262).

Shiv Karan Singh, a student of Spring Dale Senior School, has secured a rank of 1,215 in the SC category at the exam.

Two from Nishan-E-Sikhi Institute clear exam

Khadoor Sahib: Two students from Khadoor Sahib-based Nishan-e-Sikhi Institute of Science Studies (NESISS), run under the patronage of noted environmentalist Baba Sewa Singh, have cleared the JEE (Advanced) exam.Tarlochan Singh, a resident of Rayya (district Amritsar), has secured the 1,279 rank, while Simranjit Singh from village Bania, near Dhoolka (district Amritsar) has bagged 14,400 rank.

Tarlochan said he wanted to study electronics and communication engineering at an IIT, but he also has his eyes set on becoming an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer.

"After entering into the IAS, I will have the opportunity to serve the society. I want to help the underprivileged and make a difference," he claimed.
