The accused has been identified as Baldev Singh, 30, a resident of Bhaduar, who was arrested by the Baghapurana police on March 19, under sections 22-61-85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) Act.

As per information, head constable Jarnail Singh and constable Baltej Singh from the Faridkot jail were escorting the accused at the court of additional district and sessions judge Charanjit Arora.

“When we were taking him out of the court after hearing, Baldev suddenly disengaged his hands from me and fled from the spot,” Baltej said. He said that cops tried to chase him, but couldn’t catch him and he managed to abscond with a youth waiting for him on a black Pulsar bike outside the court premises.

On Friday, a 25-year-old undertrial Santokh Singh, brought from Ludhiana to a local court for a hearing, escaped with handcuffs on from the police custody after pushing constable Parshotam Lal, who was escorting him to the police van.

Rajinderpal Singh, station house officer (SHO), Moga city police station, said that a case has been registered against both cops for negligence and also against the undertrial. “We are conducting raids to nab the accused,” he said. The case against the undertrial has been registered under Sections 223 (escape from custody), 224 (resistance or obstruction to his lawful apprehension) and 225 (obstruction to lawful apprehension of another person) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Moga city police station.
