The city police arrested an assistant sub-inspector Lakhbir Singh on charges of attempt to murder on Friday for allegedly attacking a youth with a sharp-edged weapon over a parking issue in Guru Nanak Nagar here.
Lakhbir, who is cuurently deputed at PAP headquarters, was produced before a local court and remanded to judicial custody.
In his complaint with the police, Navalpreet Singh, a resident of Guru Nanak Nagar, alleged that on October 24, ASI Lakhbir, along with his friends Surinder and Indu of Nagra village, were standing in the middle of street number-4 of Guru Nanak Nagar with their gypsy.
Navalpreet said that when he requested them to park their gypsy on the roadside, lakhbir started beating him and attacked him on the head with a sharp-edged weapon.
Navalpreet was admitted to a private hospital and thereafter he filed a complaint with the police against Lakhbir.
Lakhbir was recently promoted to ASI rank and was a bodybuilder before joining police force in 1997.
